Emma Carter, originally of Charlotte, North Carolina, is a eldest sister, poet, graphic designer, and high school English teacher.

She earned her Master of Arts in Teaching (Secondary English) from Duke Univ. in 2025 as a Durham Teaching Fellow after completing her undergraduate studies in graphic design (Dec ’22) and English–Creative Writing (Spr ’23) at North Carolina State Univ.

She is interested in the intersection of language and design, and in particular exploring how stories take shape through layout, visuals, and the classroom. She’s especially interested in design thinking, media literacy, and creative literacy as tools for empowerment.

She finds joy in publication design, information architecture, Southern literature, quiltmaking and other fiber crafts, frogs, Appalachian tradition, and a good beverage lineup.

She is a Virgo sun, Libra moon, and Aquarius rising.
